Dining plan descriptions

The following dining plans will be available for the 2018 - 2019 academic year.  The plans offer benefits such as included guest meals and the ability to add Flex Dollars throughout the year.  Meal plan participants also receive a discounted rate from the regular door rate when using Flex Dollars.

  • 23 On Demand -- 23 anytime meals per week to be used in Resident Dining Halls, plus $100 in Flex Dollars per year. Includes 12 guest meals per semester. Non-transferrable. Available to all students.  $6,610/year
  • 21 On Demand -- 21 anytime meals per week to be used in Resident Dining Halls, plus $200 Flex Dollars per year. Includes 12 guest meals per semester.  Non-transferable.  Available to all students.  $6,610/year
  • 19 On Demand -- 19 anytime meals per week to be used in Resident Dining Halls, plus $300 Flex Dollars per year. Includes 10 guest meals per semester.  Non-transferable.  Available to all students.  $6,500/year
  • 15 On Demand --  15 anytime meals per week to be used in Resident Dining Halls, plus $500 Flex Dollars for the year. Includes 10 guest meals per semester.  Non-transferable.  Available to all students.  $6,430/year
  • 12 On Demand -- 12 anytime meals per week to be used in Resident Dining Halls, plus $700 Flex Dollars per year. Includes 8 guest meals per semester.  Non-transferable.  Available to sophomores, juniors, seniors and graduate students. $5,780/year
  • 10 On Demand  Ten anytime meals per week to be used in Resident Dining Halls, plus $900 Flex Dollars per year.  Includes 8 guest meals per semester.  Non-transferable. Available to sophomores, juniors, seniors and graduate students.  $5,590/year
  • CYO "Create Your Own" Plan -- 200 meals per semester. Dining Plan holder may also choose to convert meals into Flex Dollars.  Additional restrictions apply. Conversion rate is $8.80 per meal. Conversion of meals into Flex Dollars must be completed by Friday, October 5, 2018 for the fall semester and by Friday, March 1, 2019 for the spring semester. No more than two conversion submissions will be accepted per student per semester. Unused meals will be forfeited at the end of each semester; however, Flex Dollars will carry over from fall into the spring semester. Non-transferable.  Available only to sophomores, juniors, seniors, graduate students living on- or off-campus, and to those undergraduate students living in an approved Greek Residence. $5,070/year
  • 5 on Demand Greeks and Grads -- Five anytime meals per week to be used in Resident Dining Halls, plus $600 in Flex Dollars per year. Includes 2 guest meals per semester.  Non-transferable. Available to undergraduate Greek students who are part of an approved residential Greek Residence Commons, graduate students, and off-campus students.  Sophomores are not eligible for this plan.  $2,600/year

Flex Dollars -- Flex Dollars, which add flexibility to your dining plan options and are incorporated into each plan, are yours to spend like cash at Hospitality Services locations in the Rensselaer Union, retail cafes around campus, Moe's, concessions, and resident dining halls. Flex Dollars are allotted by semester and carry over from the Fall to Spring semester, but end on the last day of the academic calendar and are thereafter forfeited.  Flex Dollars are also forfeited upon cancellation of the meal plan.

Unused guest meals are also forfeited at the end of each semester.

Please indicate your choice of a dining plan for the 2018 - 2019 academic year.  PLEASE NOTE:  Dining plan terms and conditions are listed at the bottom of this agreement.  Freshmen and sophomore residents are required to participate in a dining plan.

Terms and conditions of this agreement

All Rensselaer policies and procedures, existing and as changed from time to time, contained in the current Rensselaer Catalog, and other
Rensselaer and Student Life publications, including the 2018-2019 price list, are part of this agreement and must be read by all students.

Dining plan terms and conditions

Meals are not served when Rensselaer is not in session, including Thanksgiving, Winter, and Spring recesses.  Certain dining facilities may be closed during specified periods of the academic year.  Between 11:00am and 2:00pm, the Russell Sage Dining Hall is accessible to only Quad, E-Complex, North, BARH, RAHP, Stacwyck, Colonie, Blitman Commons residents, and Polytech Apartments residents. 

Flex Dollars are allotted by semester and carry over from fall to spring, but end on the last day of the academic calendar and are forfeited thereafter.

  • Dining plans are not transferable.
  • Dining plans are for the entire academic year.
  • Students may not take food out of a contract dining hall, except under conditions specified by the dining hall management.
  • Students may sign up for dining plans at any time.  Changed will be pro-rated on a weekly basis.
  • Daily operating hours vary by dining hall location.
  • All sophomores, as well as BARH and Blitman residents, are required to participate in a dining plan.
  • Weekly meals replenish on Sunday mornings.
  • Unused weekly meals are forfeited.

Dining plan cancellations

Cancellations to the dining plan agreement are very limited and are subject to all of the following:

  • There is no penalty for written cancellations delivered to Auxiliary Services before 5:00pm on Friday, September 7, 2018. 
    After that date, students cannot cancel their dining agreements for the remainder of the academic year.
  • New students for the spring semester have until Monday, January 14, 2019 to cancel their dining plan.
  • Please note that freshmen and sophomores CANNOT cancel their dining plans.

Dining plan changes

Students may increase or decrease the size of their dining plan up until Friday, September 7, 2018 for the fall semester, and Monday, January 14, 2019 for the spring semester.  After these dates, only dining plan increases will be allowed.  Note that a dining plan cancellation does not constitute a change.

Refund schedule

The following table shows the refunds of dining plan charges for students who withdraw from
Rensselaer or take a leave of absence prior to the completion of an academic term.
